- 1. Where are the photographs taken?
- The photographs that are the heart of our unique gifts are taken around the dramatic coastlines of south west England, mostly in West Cornwall.
- 2. When are the photographs taken?
- Most photographs used in the unique gifts are taken at dawn. However when visibility or light is very poor, the photograph may be taken later in the day, so we can offer you the best possible image for that day. The time each photograph is taken is detailed when you search The Day That's gallery, along with personal notes from the photographer.
- 3. What size photographs are available? And how much are they?
- The unique gifts come in a choice of four sizes: small, classic, gallery and exhibition. Read more about our sizes and frames.
- 4. What frames do you use for the unique gifts and is there a choice?
- We use Neilsen Frames and Border Frames. Both have a reputation for producing high quality frames that are both attractive and sturdy. For small, classic or gallery sizes you can choose between a metal frame in black or matt silver or a solid natural wood frame made from sustainably grown birch. For exhibition size you can choose between a smooth rich brown or solid beech frame. In order to protect the photograph during transit, we don't provide photographs unframed. But, if you want to re-frame the photograph yourself, the print can easily be removed from the Nielsen frame.
- 5. Why are some photographs in black and white?
- The light is different every day and so is the amount of sun and cloud cover. The photographer uses his best judgment to produce the most beautiful photograph for the unique gifts on any one day. On some days, in his view, the most beautiful photograph may be black and white.
- 6. Can I be certain a photograph was genuinely taken on the specific day?
- Yes. Each photograph used in the unique gifts has a source file containing embedded metadata which cannot be erased or altered. This is equivalent to the photograph's DNA. (This metadata is not visible on the photograph itself.)
- 7. Can I choose the hand-written wording that appears below the photograph?
- Yes. We specialise in personalised gifts and so the inscription is an important part of the unique gifts. When you order the photograph, the default wording to appear below the photograph will be either your child's name followed by 'first day' (e.g. Ryan's first day) for photographs purchased for birth or christening gifts or the couple's name followed by 'wedding day' (e.g. Sarah and Tom's Wedding day) for photographs purchased for weddings or civil unions. You will have the option to change this to your preferred wording (up to 50 characters) if you are ordering a photograph to commemorate a different occasion (e.g. The Day That Josh graduated, The Day That Bob retired etc), the choice of wording is entirely yours.
- 8. Do you have photographs from before 21st June 2005?
- No. Our range of unique gifts is only available from 21st June 2005. Please accept our apologies if the special date you require is before then.
- 9. There's no photograph when I search for a special date. Why is this?
- Unfortunately, and only in unusual circumstances, the photographer is unable to take a photograph on a particular day. Our aim is to minimise the number of days when this happens, so the range of unique gifts is as complete as possible. If there is no photograph for the date you are seeking, please accept our sincere apologies. We would never compromise the integrity of The Day That unique gifts by inserting a substitute image from a different day.
- 10. What is the print quality of the photographs?
- All The Day That photographs are taken on a professional digital camera. The photographs are printed on pH neutral archival paper using the Epson UltraChromeTM Ink System. This is a professional printing system which meets archival quality print standard. So you can be sure the unique gifts are always of the highest quality.
- 11. What is your returns policy?
- In the unlikely event your photograph or frame is damaged in transit, please contact us immediately. We will arrange for the damaged goods to be returned and replaced at no cost to you. Because 'The Day That photographs are personalised, we are unable to accept returns if you decide you no longer like the photograph. Before ordering, you can view an enlarged, embossed version of your chosen photograph to make sure you are happy with your choice of unique gifts. View The Day That's trading terms and conditions.
- 12. Are the photographs manipulated?
- No. There is no manipulation. The photograph you see in the unique gifts range is the exact photograph taken on that day. To create the best possible images, very subtle adjustments to the colour balance, saturation and contrast may be made.
