About This Day

Porthgwidden Beach
Sunrise: 7.41am - 11th February 2019

“Beams”

It was quite blustery this morning and the wind was coming in from the west. Usually in this direction Porthgwidden is a good choice since it can offer a little bit of shelter.

It was mostly cloudy but there were some nice gaps in the clouds with colour coming through slightly towards the East. Usually I spend my morning walking around the beach trying to get different angles but this morning I had to pin myself to the back corner of the beach to try and fit the colour into the shots.

As the light developed I realised there was more colour coming through in the wider skies so decided to head up to the top of the lookout and captured some shots from a higher view across St Ives bay. When the light faded a few minutes before sunrise I went back down to the beach to be welcomed by a lovely glimpse of the sun rising through a small gap in the clouds which was lovely to see.

I focussed on capturing this beam of light coming through the edges of the clouds and across the wet sand and surface of the water. A lovely end to the morning.
