About This Day

Porthmeor Beach
Sunrise: 8:17am

In the 6 or so years I have photographed the dawns for The Day That, this was one of the most difficult mornings I have had to photograph. The rain came down, hard, so much so that it got through the water proof clothing so I would leave the beach later on, soaked through.

Porthmeor beach is tough at low tide as it does not generate much energy in the sea. Due to the rain, this was the only location I could go to so that the wind and rain would be on my back.

Whilst there, I had to be patient, not panicking about the conditions but waiting for the right moments for the swell to come in, as well as hunting around for the best position to be in as the tide dropped. My patience paid off and I was able to capture some of the stronger swells as they forced themselves along the very deep and flat beach, capturing some nice feathered movement in the sea.
