About This Day

Porthgwidden Beach
Sunrise: 8.13am - 18th January 2019

“Blustery”

The later starts at this time of year also mean you’re more affected by local traffic. Trying to get through St Ives today was tricky to say the least! Getting stuck behind 3 different lorries on the way to the beach made for a rushed start.

When I eventually got to Porthgwidden conditions were blustery with an Easterly wind and patchy rain. The swirling winds meant the wet weather gear protecting the camera kept blowing around everywhere so some tricky conditions to shoot in this morning.

There was some good definition in the clouds and plenty of wet sand to reflect the dramatic sky, so I worked to incorporate this into the shots. Thicker cloud then came in so I then focussed on the water movement. I decided to photograph both towards the East and North to get a nice variation of shots and try and capture the drama of today.
