About This Day

Porthgwidden Beach
Sunrise: 7:12am

As I drove in the early hours towards St Ives, I could see a thick band of clouds hanging over the horizon toward the East. It seemed large enough that it would block out the sun as it rose and potentially block out any colour that the dawn might bring, so I decided to head to Porthgwidden, an adaptable location that would work well on a morning such as this.

It was very very cold on the beach, and with a consistent, head on breeze, this was easily the coldest morning I had experienced so far this year. As the dawn progressed, clouds began to form, which was good to see as this increased the likely hood of colour for later. As I suspected the sun was blocked by the band of clouding, but by this point the clouds above were able to gain colour, so it was a lovely end to the dawn.
