“Shimmering Groynes”

East Devon was the location of choice today. Whilst being familiar with the beaches around this area I’d done very little golden hour photography here. I headed out shortly after 7am excited under the premise of a good forecast. As I walked up through the dunes I could see the colours already filling the sky casting silhouettes around the beach huts. I knew it was going to be a lovely morning.

The weather was very kind for my first shoot, after all the storms of recent weeks it was a classic winter sunrise, with a lovely yellow and orange glow in the sky well before dawn and a wonderful tranquil feeling around me.

I focussed on some long exposures initially of the waves lapping around the groynes and rocks and then as the whispy clouds started absorbing the pink and red colours I worked to capture these also with the reflections across the calm seas and shimmering onto the groynes.
