About This Day

Porthgwidden Beach
Sunrise: 8.19am - 9th January 2019

“Glow”

The carpark in Porthgwidden faces both this beach and Porthmeor so I paused for a minute to try and figure which beach would be best to shoot from. On a dawn such as today when there are heavy clouds on the horizon it’s tricky to know where the best spot is, since often the clouds towards the West will actually carry more colour than the East. I decided to stick with Porthgwidden and was really happy with my choice. There was a stunning glow coming through from the pre-dawn skies and there were some lovely reflections and movement in the water.

When the sky got a bit brighter I started to focus on the waves crashing and swirling around the rocks and then there was a bit of a lull for about 15 minutes. I decided to hang on and moved up to the lookout point and was rewarded with a lovely gold and yellow glow around the edges of the clouds which capped off a lovely morning.
