About This Day

Porthkidney Beach and Hawkes Point
Sunrise: 7.34am - 9th October 2018

“Back to beauty“

Having been away for a few weeks I decided to head to Hawkes Point to get my bearings with the sunrise. The sun gradually rises further towards the South East as winter approaches, so Hawkes Point was an ideal viewpoint.

I had a lovely view over St Ives bay, looking across to Hayle and Godrevey, and the sun was definitely rising further South. That said all the action and colour of the morning was further towards the North. There were some wonderful light whipsy clouds above Godrevey that looked like wings, which lit up amazing red streaks that stretched further across the sky creating some lovely contrast between the blues and yellows in the sky.

The winter sun can be quite harsh, and it became too bright to photograph before the sun even came up, but I captured a lovely assortment of pre-dawn images today, along with a few post-sunrise images off to the North.

It’s great to be back photographing the sunrise again, albeit a little jet-lagged.
